Our story so far

Before we introduce ourselves, we'd like to say a little bit about our history as a team and pay homage to ‘Take the Lead Romney Marsh’ from where we as pet care professionals originate. Without the ex-company director's vision, encouragement and guidance as a team, we would not have had the experiences or the opportunities to work with some truly amazing dogs (and people!) over the 15+ years combined we have worked for ‘Take the Lead’. Thank you to our friend Steph, for setting us up with a job we couldn't leave behind. We wish you and your family happiness and success in  the future.

Matt Rivers

Having worked in the ski industry for over two decades, I have been fortunate to have spent many winters following the snow in both the northern and southern hemispheres, training and working as a ski instructor. I completed my Level 4 International Ski Teacher Diploma in 2011 which has let me base myself teaching in France.

Finding enjoyment in my work has always been important, so moving back home more full time was a daunting prospect! This job has enabled me to combine two passions of working with dogs and continuing to work outdoors. Even in the rain & mud I'd still be happier outdoors! For the past 7 years I have been working with an amazing team at 'Take the Lead Romney Marsh'. Most of my weeks off I can still be found with skis on my feet!

Growing up being surrounded by dogs as my mother was, and still is a professional trimmer. I have always been supported with following my passions and finding love for my work. You will find my wing pilot and mentor, Enzo with me for many of our group walks!

As a child, I always wanted to work with animals.  My school work experience was at a vets, and I would walk neighbours’ dogs when they were busy because at that time I wasn't allowed a dog of my own.  Eventually the time was right to have my own dog, and I've never been without one since!

Career-wise, I ran my own pet food business for 11 years and have been a professional dog walker / pet sitter for the past 2 years.  It’s a job I absolutely love, whatever the weather!

I have owned, or looked after, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, chickens, gold fish and a tortoise!"

I have worked for Take the Lead for 6 years as a dog walker and pet sitter. Many of the dogs I am fortunate enough to continue working with I have known for many years. I have cared for and owned many pets throughout my lifetime. I also volunteered as a vet assistant with the RSPCA vet clinic in Folkestone for several years. I am familiar with many local dog walking areas and trails and I also enjoy discovering new ones on foot. I look forward to caring for and exploring with all the dogs I love.
